[NEWS] [TV Zoom-In] “MIX & MATCH” Has Begun, Did You See Their Desperate Wish?

[TV리포트=김가영 기자] You go over Seoraksan Mountain (the 3rd highest mountain in South Korea), then Hallasan Mountain (the highest mountain in South Korea) is waiting for you. For “MIX & MATCH” members, debut is a steep and rugged mountain. To make things worse, there are more competitors. Race of nine boys who have been spurting for their debut has just begun.

On the 11 this month, “MIX & MATCH”, YG Entertainment’s survival program for selection of the members of its new boy group, was aired for the first time. Last year, YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK said in “WIN” show that “WIN”’s losing team would be disbanded or the members will be changed. Now, YANG reshuffles the members of TEAM B through “MIX & MATCH”.

YANG was asked about why he likes survival audition that much, and he explained the purpose of “MIX & MATCH”, saying, “Rather than I like survival audition especially, the world is competition itself. Our singers’ singing in the fierce world of music is competition itself. I think this kind of battle program is good to understand and produce these friends for the next five, ten years of their career”.

BOBBY whose debut went to failure after “WIN” show last year said, “I really craved to stand on the stage. I couldn’t forget the catharsis. I really wanted to do something but there was no stage for me”. KOO JUNHOE said, “I practiced really hard to get over the emptiness. I wanted people to think that I practiced really hard, when they see me, so I practiced again and again”.

Then, scenes of Team B’s practice were unveiled. World-class choreographers who watched Team B’s practice extolled their talent and skills, saying, “The dance will be their big advantage, when they actually debut”, “I was impressed that they have already reached a high level”, etc.

YG’s senior artist EPIK HIGH complimented BOBBY’s rapping by saying, “BOBBY has featured for EPIK HIGH’s album. BOBBY is good enough to work with professionals. He can do the work even better”. EPIK HIGH also explained about TEAM B’s enthusiasm, saying, “I felt their desperate wish. Team B has something special, which can be covered by their enthusiasm”.

YANG praised B.I’s value, stating, “BIGBANG members and YG producers all like B.I very much. He has an extraordinary leadership. The songs written by him were more than expected, too, so I have high expectations for him”. B.I expressed his desire for debut by saying, “The best way to maintain the team is to write good songs by myself”.

Now, TEAM B is given another opportunity for debut, after their long-time hard work. Will the beginning of the new project be luck or another hardship for TEAM B? They are now faced with another gate of survival, before their debut. Furthermore, three new YG trainees are added to compete with the six TEAM B members. Only seven of them will be able to make debut. Two will be further estranged from debut.

YANG explained, “They will have to compete on the global stage, going beyond Korea. That is why I have given them the name iKON. I replaced C with K, hoping that whey will be a team who can represent Korea”. TEAM B members were happy to hear their new name. However, they were also confused to hear about the beginning of another survival audition and addition of new members.

TEAM B members were rather opposed to YANG’s plan and said, “We have never thought of additional members. We thought our team is about just six of us”. However, YANG said, “I want to see their teamwork. I also want to see once again, how B.I and BOBBY lead the team”. New faces to compete with Team B members include 18-year-old JUNG JINHYEONG and 17-year-old JUNG CHANWOO who had been a child actor. The two new faces have desperately craved for debut with a big enthusiasm comparable to that of TEAM B. However, they were not that welcomed by TEAM B members, who have been working together and building teamwork for a long time.

B.I frankly said, “I don’t like it. We think the six of us are one team, so I didn’t like the new members. My team’s advantage is teamwork, but I’m not sure if we can have the teamwork with the new members”. BOBBY said, “I’m worried about whether they can create harmony with our color. I’m also concerned about whether they can mix well with us”. KOO JUNHOE said, “It’s a good opportunity for them, but for us, they are like free-riders. I don’t like it”. However, the nine members including six Team B members, two new faces, and one more new face who will be unveiled next week, must make one team before the competition and stage the best performance.

Nine boys who are rushing for debut. For them, competition is a familiar tool that they want to get away now. However, the nine already have their foot in the door of another competition for survival. Music fans are paying keen attention to what growth they will show before debut, whether they can make one team before the beginning of the competition, and who the final seven winners will be.
