[NEWS] “WINNER Debuts in Japan & iKON Goes to China”: YG’s Reason Behind Big Moves

[TV리포트=김예나 기자] WINNER and iKON were raised by YG Entertainment like brothers. The big brother WINNER made a debut this August while iKON is gearing up for theirs in January 2015. As the two groups are quite different, they head to different foreign markets: WINNER to Japan and iKON to China.
WINNER and iKON became known to the public in the 2013 survival program “WIN: WHO IS NEXT” as Team A and Team B. Team A, seizing victory on the show, then became WINNER, and Team B was back to being trainees. And in 2014 another survival program MIX & MATCH was made to determine the final group iKON, evolving from Team B.
Making their debut in August, WINNER started promoting in Japan from September. They held a concert in Japan right after their album release. WINNER opened BIGBANG’s Japan Tour concerts, and thanks to that experience they already secured a solid fan base. Under the title “WINNER 1st JAPAN TOUR 2014” WINNER travelled across 5 cities to perform 11 times, attracting 25,000 fans from Tokyo, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Nagoya and Osaka.
WINNER is currently preparing their new album. YG’s YANG HYUN SUK commented, “WINNER will not be limited to the Korean music market. They will promote both in Korea and Japan. There is no set border for them, and that applies to their music genre as well. There is a lot to show. WINNER will continuously grow like BIGBANG.”
Now the announcement of the finalists is left for iKON. On Oct 22 the final match was held in Korea University’s HwaJung gym. 150,000 people entered to win the ticket, proving iKON’s already-high popularity.
iKON was also in Beijing to meet with the local fans. Nearly 60,000 people entered. The fans crowded at the airport, where everything had to be halted to control the crowd.
YANG commented, “iKON’s popularity in China was simply explosive. iKON will be challenging the Chinese market, but they are not going there immediately. They will solidify their position here in Korea first, and then move on to China later. We need to repay the fans who have been waiting so long for their debut.”
YANG had high expectations for the Chinese market penetration. But he emphasized that iKON’s promotion in Korea comes first.

“No artists from YG actually entered the Chinese market in full force. But now is the time to do so, adapting to circumstances of the local market. iKON will be the first to do it. YG’s foreign market had its focus on Japan. BIGBANG prepared for it for a long time and successfully achieved 800,000 Dome Tour. We have long-term plans for iKON’s promotion in China. We will do it step by step, with no rush.”

[NEWS] “MIX & MATCH” Team B’s Last Performance in YG Concert… Now “iKON”

[OSEN=조민희 인턴기자] “MIX & MATCH”’s Team B had their last performance in “YG Family Concert”.
In Mnet’s entertainment show “MIX & MATCH” aired on the 2 in the evening, Team B showed a perfect performance on the stage of “YG Family Concert”.
In the show, Team B of B.I, BOBBY, KIM JIN HWAN, KOO JUN HOE, KIM DONG HYUK, and SONG YUN HYEONG captivated the audience with their last performance as “Team B”. Team B’s unique self-introduction, veteran stage manners, and collaboration with senior YG artists livened up the mood.
The team’s leader B.I said after the performance, “I felt sorry that it was the last performance by the six of us”. YANG HYUN SUK extolled Team B’s performance by saying “Personally, the performance was quite satisfactory”, drawing much attention from fans.
Meanwhile, “MIX & MATCH” is aired on cable channel Mnet and search engine NAVER’s TV CAST on every Thursday at 11pm. Replay service is available on NAVER TV CAST and YG’s official blog.

[NEWS] YG’s TEAM B, 0 hour Sept 12: “Wait For Me”

[OSEN=선미경 기자] YG Entertainment’s TEAM B is to unveil their new song “WAIT FOR ME” at 0 hour of Sept 12: indeed a huge surprise.

YG unveiled on its official blog at 3 pm on Sept 11, the back of six members from TEAM B. The phrase “DIGITAL RELEASE TEAM B Wait For Me” was written on the teaser image.

TEAM B, consisting of B.I, BOBBY, KIM JINHWAN, SONG YUNHYEONG, KOO JUNHOE and KIM DONGHYUK, lost by little against WINNER last year on “WHO IS NEXT: WIN,” but was much loved by the general public.

“WAIT FOR ME” is to be the last single released by the six members of TEAM B as a whole. The song is impressive in a way that it carries the members’ passion to be on stage and to repay the fans of their love and enthusiasm. TEAM B’s leader B.I and YG producers co-composed the songs while co-wrote it with BOBBY.

B.I and BOBBY topped charts with songs unveiled on “Show Me the Money 3” while getting involved in WINNER’s debut album’s winning title track “EMPTY.” All the songs unveiled even before their debut have been already topping charts, so it is no surprise that “WAIT FOR ME” is attracting much attention.

Starting from Sept 11, TEAM B will be appearing on Mnet’s “MIX & MATCH” with three new trainees, for the battle to become YG’s new boy group iKON.

[News] YG Set to Unveil Three New “Mix & Match” Contestants Today

 Fans of survival audition show “Win,” which spawned the group Winner, have only hours to wait before the three newest trainees are unveiled to the public. The trainees will join the six members of Team B, the group that finished as runners-up to Winner, as part of a new show called “Mix & Match.” The new program will air on Mnet.

The new members will be unveiled at a press conference to be held in the afternoon of September 2 in the Conrad Hotel in the Yeouido district of Seoul. According to YG Entertainment, the talent agency that has masterminded the new show, the company’s CEO, Yang Hyun Suk, will be in attendance. Actress and “Get it Beauty” presenter Yoo In Na and BIGBANG star Daesung will be MCing the event.

The participants know that the stakes will be high in the new show, with the winning group set to debut as a YG boy band.

[News] YG Awaits the Birth of New Boy Group with ′Mix & Match′!

A year after super rookie Winner was born through Who is Next: WIN, YG Entertainment will unveil a new group through the survival program Mix & Match, which will be broadcasted through Mnet and Naver. 

Mix & Match will consist of Team B′s B.I, Bobby, Kim Jin Hwan, Song Yoon Hyeong, Goo Joon Hwae, Kim Dong Hyuk, as well as three new trainees, who powered through audition competitions. The nine trainees will use their talents, charms, and uniqueness to showcase a fierce battle to become a member of YG′s new boy group.

Ahead of the broadcast, the press conference for Mix & Match take place on September 2 at the Conrad Hotel in Yeoudio. Yang Hyun Suk will personally attend the press conference to introduce the Team B debut project as well as the format of the Mix & Match battles. 

The MCs of the Mix & Match press conference will be Big Bang′s Daesung and Yoo In Na, who previously hosted the final round of WIN.

As Mix & Match will showcase a comparison between the new trainees and Team B, including B.I and Bobby, who are already taking over music charts through Mnet′s Show Me the Money 3, the program is expected to create much talk once again.

[동아닷컴 홍세영 기자] YG Entertainment (“YG”) launches new survival program “MIX & MATCH”, for debut of WIN Team B including B.I and BOBBY.

One year after YG’s “WHO IS NEXT : WIN” show that gave birth to super rookie “WINNER”, YG will now broadcast new survival program “MIX & MATCH” on Mnet and NAVER at the same time, to select the members of YG’s next new boy group.

In “MIX & MATCH”, nine candidates including members of WIN Team B (B.I, BOBBY, KIM JINHWAN, SONG YUNHYEONG, KOO JUNHOE, and KIM DONGHYUK), as well as three YG trainees who were selected through a fierce competition, will “mix and match” their skills, charms, and characters to the best, to engage in a fierce battle to be selected as the members of YG’s next new boy group.

A press conference to announce the launch of “MIX & MATCH” will be held on September 2, at Conrad Hotel located in Yeoui-do, Seoul.

YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK will explain details of WIN Team B’s debut project and the battle of “MIX & MATCH” in the press conference.

As YANG said that he will “disband or change the members of the losing team” after confirming Team A as “WINNER in “WIN” show a year ago, Team B’s Korean and foreign fans who have long been waiting for Team B’s debut are paying keen attention to what battle they will face this time and how YG will create a new boy group through what missions and evaluations.

BIGBANG’s DAESUNG and actress-cum-DJ YOO IN NA, who were the MCs of “WIN” show’s final episode and battle, will host the press conference for “MIX & MATCH”, to support and cheer their prospective colleagues.


“MIX & MATCH” is expected to create a sensation in the broadcasting world once again, as viewers will be able to witness growth of WIN Team B members such as B.I and BOBBY who have recently been sweeping top places on music charts with their songs unveiled in Mnet’s “Show Me The Money 3”, as well as talent and skills of YG’s new faces.
